Arizona Cardinals 2010 Wide Receiver Preview
Larry Fitzgerald
There is no doubt that Larry Fitzgerald is one of the most talented
receivers in the NFL and one of the best receivers in fantasy football
over the last five years. The doubt is in new Cardinal starting
quarterback Matt Leinart.
With Kurt Warner the Cardinals were a pass-first team and a pass-a-lot
team. On the other hand Fitz had only seven catches for 51 yards
in Leinart's two starts in 2009. That is a scary difference and
one that should worry fantasy owners. The Cardinals did add Derek
Anderson as insurance for Leinart, but he is an absolute wildcard
if he ends up starting.
On the other hand, Fitzgerald's partner Anquan Boldin was traded
to the Ravens, leaving Fitz as the undisputed main-man in Arizona.
Steve Breaston (1,006 yards in 2008) will replace Boldin and he
should do a good job, but at this point he is no Anquan Boldin and
that should both keep the double-teams and the looks coming Larry
Fitzgerald's way. After Breaston there is very little help for the
Cardinals (Early Doucet is the likely #3) and their tight ends don't
really catch passes so that should leave the majority of looks to
Fitzgerald.
