Houston Texans 2010 Quarterback Preview
Matt Schaub
Schaub stayed healthy in 2009 and did exactly what many fantasy
owners thought he could so and played like a stud. At 6-5, 239,
Schaub has perfect quarterback size. He showed his mental and physical
toughness many times by playing through injuries in 2009. He has
grown into the quarterback the Texans thought they had acquired.
A big reason for Shaub's success is his receiver Andre Johnson.
His size and speed will take any quarterback to another level. Receiver
Kevin Walter and tight end Owen Daniels complete a very good receiver
core that only lacks depth.
The offensive line blocked very well for Shaub as they gave up 25
sacks. If 2008 #1 pick tackle Duane Brown can progress the line
could become an above average line. The Texans added depth by signing
veteran free agent guard Wade Smith. Protecting Shaub will be the
key to his fantasy success and he still needs another big season
to prove he is not injury-prone.
The run game will be a big question Arian Foster, Steve Slaton and
second-round draft pick Ben Tate will compete for the starting spot.
Slaton, the rookie sensation of 2008, had surgery and looks to get
his starting job back. Either way, he will help Shaub out of the
backfield with his great receiving skills.
His final games include Baltimore and Jacksonville and at home and
Denver and Tennessee on the road. This is not a great schedule for
the fantasy playoffs.
