2009 Center Preseason Preview

Andrew Bogut

Andrew Bogut

7. Andrew Bogut - Milwaukee

Bogut is fresh off of signing a nice fat extension with the Milwaukee Bucks. This is the year Bogut will average a double-double for the whole year. The Bucks need him to step up and become the star he's getting paid to be. I would not be surprised if his scoring average reached the high teens. He is a burgeoning superstar and this could be the year his owners cash in on him.

2008 Statistics: 14.3 Pts - 9.8 Reb - 2.6 Ast

2009 Projection: 16.3 Pts - 10.8 Reb - 2.2 Ast

8. Tyson Chandler - New Orleans

Tyson finally averaged over 10 PPG for the first time in his career. He has benefited a lot from having Chris Paul throw him alley oop after alley oop. I would love to see a statistic to see how many of his points come from those very alley oops. Chandler brings a FG% of over 62% and over a block a game. He is a solid center who gets boards and stays healthy. He is a solid double-double guy.

2008 Statistics: 11.8 Pts - 11.7 Reb - 1.0 Ast

2009 Projection: 13.8 Pts - 12.1 Reb - 1.2 Ast

9. Zydrunas Ilgauskas - Cleveland

Zydrunas is reaching the twilight of his career but should still start at center in most leagues. He is still good for nearly a double-double. He should benefit from playing with Ben Wallace and since Wallace doesn't score, his scoring will stay steady. He still has over a block and a half per game and shoots FTs at a 80% clip. Overall, he's a steady, if not, unspectacular center who still gets the job done.

2008 Statistics: 14.1 Pts -9.4 Reb - 1.4 Ast

2009 Projection: 13.5 Pts - 9.1 Reb - 1.2 Ast

10. Shaquille O'Neal - Phoenix

Big Diesel is not what he used to be and has only played over 70 games once this millennium. If he would just stay healthy, he could be a nice asset to your team but until then, he is a risk. His statline should be very close to the one I have predicted but there is no telling for how many games he would be able to suit up. He could very well hit the high teens with his scoring average or just flame out but that's a risk his owners are going to have to accept.

2008 Statistics: 13.6 Pts - 9.1 Reb - 1.5 Ast

2009 Projection: 14.5 Pts - 8.2 Reb - 2.2 Ast
