Drafting a defense is always a risk,
but the addition of pass rushing Pro Bowl DE Jared Allen
makes the Vikings a worthwhile risk in the top 100. |
1. Minnesota Vikings - 2008 Preview:
They dominated the run in 2007 giving up just 74.1
yards per game. The addition of Pro Bowl DE Jared Allen and
his 15.5 sacks eliminates the one Viking weakness. Their big run
game and conservative pass game helps the defense as well.
2007 Statistics:
38 Sacks - 15 Int. - 21 FF - 8 TD's - 19.4 PPG.
2008 Projection:
48 Sacks - 19 Int. - 20 FF's - 8TD's - 18.5 PPG.
2. San Diego Chargers - 2008 Preview:
The already stoudt defense added cornerback Antoine
Cason with their first pick. They lead the league in interceptions
and finished 5th in sacks in 2007.
2007 Statistics:
42 Sacks - 30 Int. - 16 FF - 5 TD's - 17.8 PPG.
2008 Projection: 43
Sacks - 29 Int. - 18 FF's - 4 TD's - 18.2 PPG.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers - 2008 Preview:
One of the most consistent defenses year after year. They finished
#1 in total yardage, giving up just 266.4 yards per game and second
in total points, giving up just 16.8 points per game.
2007 Statistics:
36 Sacks - 11 Int. - 21 FF - 2 TD's - 16.8 PPG
2008 Projection: 38
Sacks - 15 Int. - 22 FF's - 3 TD's - 16.6 PPG.

4. Dallas Cowboys - 2008 Preview
The talented young defense was up and down in 2007, but they did
finish 3rd in total sacks. Off season acquisitions of cornerback
Adam Jones and veteran linebacker Zach Thomas as well as #1 draft
pick cornerback Mike Jenkins gives Dallas potentially the best defense
in football.
2007 Statistics:
46 Sacks - 19 Int. - 15 FF - 3 TD's - 20.3 PPG.
2008 Projection: 49
Sacks - 24 Int. - 15 FF's - 4 TD's - 18.2 PPG.
5. New England Patriots - 2008 Preview:
With the defensive mastermind/cheater Belichick at the helm, the
Patriots will always have atop defense. They added their first three
picks in the draft including 10th overall pick ILB Jerod Mayo to
the defenisve mix.
2007 Statistics:
47 Sacks - 19 Int. - 16 FF - 6 TD's - 17.1 PPG.
2008 Projection: 49
Sacks - 20 Int. - 14 FF's - 5 TD's - 17.8 PPG.
