2008 Defensemen Preseason Preview Coming
Brian Rafalski
|
 |
Rafalski makes a nice mid-round
sleeper. |
8. Brian Rafalski - Red Wings - 2008 Preview:
Rafalski is a solid veteran now back in Hockey Town where
he grew up close by in Dearborn. He's played with talented guys
before in New Jersey, but nothing like this Wings team. Lidstrom
still number one, but it'll be tough to keep Rafalski off the score
sheet.
2006 Statistics:
Goals 13 - Assists 42 - Pts. 55
2008 Projection:
Goals 11 - Assists 42 - Pts. 53
9.Tomas Kaberle - Maple Leafs - 2008 Preview:
Kaberle doesn't get the credit he deserves often playing
on an underachieving Maple Leafs team. He puts up strong numbers
every year even while playing with some bad teams in his tenure.
The Leafs and Kaberle should get back on track this year and hopefully
with Mats Sundin.
2006 Statistics:
Goals 8 - Assists 45 - Pts. 53
2008 Projection:
Goals 10 - Assists 36 - Pts. 46
10.Sheldon Souray - Islanders - 2008 Preview:
Souray is very talented, however he's now playing for the
Isles. This team is just not very good. He'll manage some power
play points while being the anchor on the top unit, but his assist
total could easily be 50 if he were playing somewhere else.
2006 Statistics:
Goals 3 - Assists 7 - Pts. 10
2008 Projection:
Goals 13 - Assists 32 - Pts. 45

Best of The Rest
Pavel Datsyuk - Red Wings - 2008 Preview:
Its hard to believe the Red Wings actually have some youth on there
team but they do and it starts with Datsyuk. Remember, anyone under
35 in Detroit is considered young. Datsyuk's playmaking ability
is uncanny. He registered a plus/minus of +36 last season to go
longside his 87 points. Its time for Zetterberg and Datsyuk to take
over for the storied franchise and expect just that for the up coming
season.
Jason Spezza - Senators - 2008 Preview:
Spezza has managed a 90 point season in 05-06 and an 87 point season
in 06-07 while playing in less than 70 games in each season. He turned
24 years old this June and should be healthy at the beginning of
the season. So long as he stays healthy, he should post big numbers
for the third consecutive year. Ottawa's offensive has been lethal
and Spezza will continue to put up big numbers for the Sens.
Olli Jokinen - Panthers - 2008 Preview:
Olli plays for a bad Florida team and still puts up numbers you
can't ignore. If the Finnish born Jokinen was on just about any
other team, he would be a household name to even non hockey fans.
He's got consecutive 90+ point seasons and somehow has stayed better
than +14 the last two seasons.
