2008 Goalie Preseason Preview
Cristobal Huet
|
 |
Huet may move up the rankings
in the second half if the Blackhawks improve. |
8. Cristobal Huet - Blackhawks - 2008 Preview:
Huet was the man in Montreal for the regular season and
then played brilliantly in the playoffs for the Caps. Chicago has
young talented team and has signed Brian Cambell to help sure up
the blue line. Chicago may start a bit slow will continue to get
better all season and perhaps make a little noise in the post season
such the Caps did last year.
2007 - 08 Statistics:
32 Wins - 2.32 GAA - .920 SV% - 4 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
37 Wins - 2.34 GAA - .929 SV% - 5 SO
9. Ryan Miller - Sabres - 2008 Preview:
Ryan Miller was one of the few positives fans saw out of
their club last season. Buffalo missed the playoffs last season
but I suspect they'll make it this year. They have enough talent
(Pomniville,Vanek, Afinogenov, Roy) to win and Miller can even steal
a few games for them....something great netminders do.
2007 - 08 Statistics:
36 Wins - 2.64 GAA - .906 SV% - 3 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
37 Wins - 2.41 GAA - .911 SV% - 4 SO
10. Martin Biron - Flyers - 2008 Preview:
The Flyers made it to the conference finals last year and
largely on the shoulders of Marty Biron. Philly is coming into the
season this year with all the confidence in the world in their team
and especially their goaltender. They lost R.J. Umberger who tore
it up in the playoffs for them, but they reamain largley intact.
Biron's numbers will see improvement as the club continues to get
better and be a significant team in the east.
2007 - 08 Statistics:
30 Wins - 2.59 GAA - .918 SV% - 5 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
36 Wins - 2.34 GAA - .929 SV% - 6 SO

Best of The Rest
Pavel Datsyuk - Red Wings - 2008 Preview:
Its hard to believe the Red Wings actually have some youth on there
team but they do and it starts with Datsyuk. Remember, anyone under
35 in Detroit is considered young. Datsyuk's playmaking ability
is uncanny. He registered a plus/minus of +36 last season to go
longside his 87 points. Its time for Zetterberg and Datsyuk to take
over for the storied franchise and expect just that for the up coming
season.
Jason Spezza - Senators - 2008 Preview:
Spezza has managed a 90 point season in 05-06 and an 87 point season
in 06-07 while playing in less than 70 games in each season. He turned
24 years old this June and should be healthy at the beginning of
the season. So long as he stays healthy, he should post big numbers
for the third consecutive year. Ottawa's offensive has been lethal
and Spezza will continue to put up big numbers for the Sens.
Olli Jokinen - Panthers - 2008 Preview:
Olli plays for a bad Florida team and still puts up numbers you
can't ignore. If the Finnish born Jokinen was on just about any
other team, he would be a household name to even non hockey fans.
He's got consecutive 90+ point seasons and somehow has stayed better
than +14 the last two seasons.
