2008 Goalie Preseason Preview
Martin Brodeur

The clear #1 Goalie in Fantasy
Hockey. |
1. Martin Brodeur - Devils - 2008 Preview:
Martin Brodeur continues to be the best goalie in the league.
Each year I try to find the guys who will fall from the top and
be replaced by someone on the way up. Until Brodeur stops being
the dominant goalie he is, I'm picking him as number one. The year
I'm wrong...who could blame me?
2007 - 08 Statistics:
44 Wins - 2.17 GAA - .920 SV% - 4 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
42 Wins - 2.19 GAA - .924 SV% - 6 SO
2. Marc-Andre Flurry - Penguins - 2008 Preview:
Flurry missed a lot of action last year and posted 19 wins
and 4 shout outs while only starting in 31 games. He was nearly
unstoppable in the playoffs until running into the Red Wings. Going
into the Cup finals the net minder loss only twice. The Penguins
don't get enough credit for the defense they play. Coach Therien
will again have this young group playing disciplined defense helping
Fluery post career numbers.
2007 - 08 Statistics:
19 Wins - 2.29 GAA - .923 SV% - 4 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
41 Wins - 2.232 GAA - .924 SV% - 8 SO
3. Miikka Kiprusoff - Flames - 2008 Preview:
Vancouver has fallen in the West and San Jose is next. The
Flames however are going to be back as an elite Western Conference
team. Kiprusoff had just under 40 wins las seasons and I expect
this year he eclipses the 40 mark. He has already seen that mark
2 out of the last 3 years and the Flames have added to thier team
some peices of the puzzle which will help see the win total improve.
2007 - 08 Statistics:
39 Wins - 2.69 GAA - .906 SV% - 2 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
42 Wins - 2.32 GAA - .911 SV% - 5 SO

4. Marty Turco - Stars - 2008 Preview:
Last year I had Turco ranked higher than most and here is why.
The guy consistently racks up 30 wins and plays night in and night
out. Last year, I thought Dallas would be an improved team which
would allow for Marty to imporve on some numbers. This year the
Stars go further and Turco helps fantasy owners along the way.
2006 Statistics:
32 Wins - 2.31 GAA - .909 SV% - 3 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
39 Wins - 2.222 GAA - .917 SV% - 6 SO
5. Evgeni Nabokov - Sharks - 2008
Preview:
Nabokov had some sick numbers last year for fantasy owners
in gaining 46 wins and 6 shutouts. The sharks will still be a playoff
team and among the best in the West. However, I think they lose
a step this year after exiting early, yet again, from the Stanley
Cup playoffs.
2007 - 08 Statistics:
46 Wins - 2.14 GAA - .910 SV% - 6 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
39 Wins - 2.25 GAA - .928 SV% - 4 SO
6. Henrik Lundqvist - Rangers - 2008 Preview:
The Rangers played well last season and Lundqvist, not Jagr,
was the number one reason why. Henrik posted an amazing 10 shoutouts
last season. This year's Rangers will be even more defensively responsible
while maintaining the ability to put the puck in the back of the
net. Look for Lundvqvist to improve on last year's numbers. Except
for shutouts of course!
2007 - 08 Statistics:
37 Wins - 2.23 GAA - .912 SV% - 10 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
39 Wins - 2.08 GAA - .909 SV% - 5 SO
7. Chris Osgood - Red Wings - 2008 Preview:
Osgood hasn't received the credit that should go his way.
Still, he doesn't complain. Ozzie will rack wins playing behind
another great Red Wing team. Osgood will be good most of the time
and great when he has to be. Last year he posted 27 wins and just
43 regular season games. He was lights out in the playoffs once
Hasek was ranked. The Wings never looked back.
2007 - 08 Statistics:
27 Wins - 2.09 GAA - .914 SV% - 4 SO
2008 - 09 Projection:
38 Wins - 2.28 GAA - .923 SV% - 5 SO
