Fantasy Hockey Player Rankings & Projections
2008 Left Wing Preseason Preview
Alexander Ovechkin
|
 |
Ovechkin has support this year
and the Capitals are eyeing to play deeper into the playoffs
this season. |
1. Alexander Ovechkin - Capitals - 2008
Preview:
Ovechkin is now surrounded by some talent in Washington,
not that he needs much around him to produce for fantasy owners.
He may be the most explosive player in the NHL today and his ability
to find the back of the net is second to none right now. Backstrom
has proved to be a nice fit in the middle for Ovechkin and his points
total will remain at the top of the league.
2007 - 08 Statistics:
Goals 65 - Assists 47 - Pts. 112
2008 - 09 Projection:
Goals 61- Assists 45- Pts. 106
2. Dany Heatley - Senators - 2008 Preview:
The Senators continue to score lots of goals and Heatley
is a huge part of that. Despite a very disappointing end of the
season and first round bow out of the playoffs against Pittsburgh,
Ottawa players will be a big help to fantasy owners once again.
Along with the goals and assissts fantasy owners will love the plus
33 rating Heatley posted last season.
2007
- 08 Statistics: Goals
41 - Assists 41 - Pts. 82
2008 - 09
Projection: Goals
48 - Assists 49 - Pts. 97
3. Brendan Morrow - Stars - 2008 Preview:
Dallas played an extremely orginized game last year with
a nice playoff run. The team has some real character players who
find the back of the net while not giving up much defensively. Morrow
is one of those. He plays a solid two way game. Last year he found
himself with over a 100 penalty minutes and maintained a plus 23
rating. I can see Dallas improving this year and Morrow will be
a big reason why.
2007
- 08 Statistics: Goals
32 - Assists 42 - Pts. 74
2008 - 09
Projection: Goals
30 - Assists 41 - Pts. 71
4. Thomas Vanek - Sabres - 2008 Preview:
Buffalo fans were widely disappointed last year with the
team's performance, but now with Vanek's. Vanek, Roy and Pomniville
combined for 225 points in the regular season. Now that he's found
the net in the NHL he'll have all the confidence in the world coming
into next season. Look for Vanek and the Sabres' numbers to improve
in the up coming season. He may tally more goals and assissts than
Morrow, but the plus/minus rating puts him back a step with fantasy
owners.
2007
- 08 Statistics: Goals
36 - Assists 28 - Pts. 64
2008 - 09
Projection: Goals
41 - Assists 38 - Pts. 79

5. Markus Naslund - Rangers - 2008 Preview:
Naslund had an off year last year by his usual standards.
Not since the 1997 - 1998 season has his point total dipped below
the 60 point mark. This year he's in the big apple and he will playing
a more inspired game than what we have seen out of him the last
two years in Vacouver. His plus/minus is as good guess as any. Over
his carreer he is a plus 16. I think when you play infront of Lundqvuist
you should end up on the plus side of things.
2007
- 08 Statistics: Goals
25 - Assists 30 - Pts. 55
2008 - 09
Projection: Goals
34 - Assists 37 - Pts.71
6. Ilya Kovalchuk - Thrashers - 2008 Preview:
Kovalchuk continues to do his thing in Atlanta despite having
a terrible team. His plus/minus rating of -73 for his carreer can
be directly related to the franchise he skates for. His point totals
are always there and he's always a threat to tally 100 points although
the closest he came was 98.
2007
- 08 Statistics: Goals
52 - Assists 35 - Pts. 87
2008 - 09
Projection: Goals
54 - Assists 34 - Pts. 98
