2008 - 09 Right Wing Preseason Preview
Jason Pominville
|
 |
Buffalo's young talent, grisly
coach and great goaltending should have them skating into
the playoffs. |
8. Jason Pominville - Sabres - 2008 - 09 Preview:
This kid's point total keeps rising. In his third season
Pominville scored 27 goals and a whopping 80 points. Buffalo isn't
full of stars either and didn't make the playoffs last year. Pominville,
Roy, Vanek, and a healthy Afinogenov should help the Sabres see
the post season and continue to see Pominville's numbers around
the 80 mark.
2006 - 07 Statistics:
Goals 27 - Assists 53 - Pts. 80
2008 - 09 Projection:
Goals 33 - Assists 46 - Pts. 79
9. Alexie Kovalev - Canadiens - 2008 - 09 Preview:
This guy is one of the most crafty players to ever handle
the puck. His passion, or lack of, has always been the question
surrounding him. Last year he exploded in Montreal both even strength
and on the powerplay. Now the question is will he play with that
passoin for two seasons in a row? I believe so for the mere fact
that he's in Montreal. Kovey will be fueled by the passion the city
and fans have for their club.
2006 - 07 Statistics:
Goals 35 - Assists 49 - Pts. 84
2008 - 09 Projection:
Goals 31 - Assists 46 - Pts. 77
10. Shane Doan - Coyotes - 2008 - 09 Preview:
I hesitate putting any Phoenix player in the top ten simply
because I think the Coyotes are going to be bottom feeders in the
Western Conference. However, Doan has put up solid numbers on this
dismal team. He consistently gets 50 or 60 points a year and last
year he managed 78 points by setting up 50 goals for teammates.
2006 - 07 Statistics:
Goals 28 - Assists 50 - Pts. 78
2008 - 09 Projection:
Goals 29 - Assists 43 - Pts. 72
4. Jarome Iginla - Flames - 2008 - 09 Preview:
94 points in 70 games. That's a phenomenal stat for the thirty
year old center. The Flames will get solid play out of their
defense led by Phaneuf and Roman Hamrlik. Kiprusoff is one
of the best net minders and will the Flames compete in a
heated Western Conference. If Iginla and the his mates stay
healthy he may exceed everyone's expectations.
2006 - 07 - 07 Statistics: Goals
39 - Assists 55 - Pts. 94
2008 - 09 - 08 Projection:
Goals 43 - Assists 61 - Pts. 104

5. Teemu Selanne - Ducks - 2008 - 09 Preview:
I hesitated to put Selanne this far up the charts but has
posted back to back 90 point seasons and last year he looked
like he was 20 years old again. Anahiem has a great team
and Selanne doesn't have the pressure having doing things
all on his own as has had before in his career. Something
tells me this guy wants another 50 goal season and he's
on the team which can give him that opportunity. The last
two seasons Selanne has seen better than +26 each time.
Last year he added 88 PIM to add to his fantasy stock in
most legues.
2006 - 07 Statistics:
Goals 48 - Assists 46 - Pts. 94
2008 - 09 Projection:
Goals 46 - Assists 53 - Pts. 99
4. Martin St. Louis - Lightning - 2008 - 09
Preview:
Marty hade a fantastic season last year racking up 102 points.
In doing so he earned career highs in goals, assists, and
points. It will be difficult to match or exceed those numbers,
however the Lightning are experienced team looking to dance
with Lord Stanely's Cup one more time. He's not going to
ever earn many penalty minutes and the plus/minus has been
modest at best with the exception of the cup year when he
ended +35.
2006 - 07 - 07 Statistics:
Goals 43 - Assists 59 - Pts. 102
2008 - 09 - 08 Projection:
Goals 43 - Assists 61 - Pts. 104
7. Daniel Alfredsson - Senators - 2008 - 09
Preview:
Afredsson has been posting great numbers for years now.
Last year he was an amazing + 42 which can add real value
to your fantasy roster. The Ottowa team is loaded with talent
and there is no sighn of the 34 yearld winger slowing down.
The Senators score often enough to help keep Alfredsson's
plus/minus above 20 if not 40 again.
2006 - 07 Statistics:
Goals 29 - Assists 58 - Pts. 87
2008 - 09 Projection:
Goals 33 - Assists 61 - Pts. 94
